01I need emergency help (emergency aid & support)
The government-provided emergency aid & support is the last social safety net (SSN) that low-income people can rely on so as not to fall to poverty level when they find it difficult to make both ends meet due to a crisis stipulated in the law. The government provides aid and support to low-income people in difficulty due to a crisis on a priority basis and assesses the adequacy of the action taken through a follow-up survey.
(1)Who are eligible for the government-provided aid and support?
If you wish to receive emergency aid and support, you should meet the requirements stipulated in the law including ① the reason for the crisis and ② the status of your income and property, etc.
- Emergency aid & support is a measure provided temporarily to those having difficulty due to an abrupt crisis, so those already receiving aid and support such as living allowance, unemployment benefit, etc. under another law shall not apply for such.
- Even if you are a non-Korean, you are eligible for emergency aid & support if you fall under any of the following: ① one married to a Korean, ② one taking care of a lineal descendant/ascendant who is a Korean as one who has divorced a Korean or whose Korean spouse has died, ③ a refugee stipulated in the Refugee Act, or ④ one who has incurred damages due to fire, crime, or act of God or reasons other than those attributable to him/her.

(3)What to do to receive aid and support
- If you have difficulty in livelihood due to a crisis associated with unemployment, (temporary) closure of business, disease or injury, etc., you may ask for consultation on emergency welfare livelihood aid and support and apply for it through the administrative welfare center or health/welfare counseling center in si/gun/gu/eup/myeon/dong (☎129).
- For the basic livelihood guarantee allowance, you may apply as follows: ① Make an online service application at the Homepage (www.bokjiro.go.kr) → Low-income people → Livelihood allowance, Residential allowance, School education allowance, Funeral/sacrificial rite-related allowance; ② call the health/welfare counseling center (☎129); or ③ visit an official in charge at the administrative welfare center.
